How Seniors Can Use AI to Make Affiliate Marketing Easier!

Affiliate Marketing for Seniors using AI at home

A simple introduction to affiliate marketing for Seniors who want to explore earning online from home!

Affiliate marketing for Seniors doesn’t have to be as complicated as it first appears.

If you’ve ever looked at affiliate marketing and thought:

“That sounds complicated.”

You’re certainly not alone.

When you first come across the subject, there seem to be endless websites, complicated-sounding terms and people telling you that you need a website, an email list, social media followers and a dozen different tools before you can even get started.

It can be enough to make you close the computer and put the kettle on!

But affiliate marketing doesn’t have to be that complicated.

At its simplest, affiliate marketing is about recommending a product or service that you believe may be useful to someone.

If that person makes a purchase through your special affiliate link, the company may pay you a commission.

You don’t create the product.

You don’t package it.

You don’t deal with shipping.

And normally, you aren’t responsible for handling refunds or customer service either.

Your job is to introduce people to products or services that may genuinely help them.

And today, tools such as ChatGPT can make some of the work involved considerably easier.

That doesn’t mean AI does the business for you.

But it can become a very useful assistant.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Let’s keep this as simple as possible.

Imagine you have a friend who is looking for a good gardening book.

You’ve bought one yourself, found it useful and tell your friend about it.

That’s essentially what affiliate marketing does—except online, you use a special link that identifies you as the person who made the recommendation.

If someone clicks your link and purchases the product, you may receive a commission.

The company gets a customer.

The customer gets something they wanted.

And you receive a commission for making the introduction.

It’s a business model that has been around for many years and is used by companies and online businesses in many different industries.

The attraction for a beginner is that you don’t have to create your own product before you can start recommending something.

Why AI Can Make Affiliate Marketing Easier for Seniors!

One of the biggest jobs in affiliate marketing is creating useful content.

You might write:

  • Helpful blog articles
  • Product comparisons
  • Reviews
  • How-to guides
  • Social media posts
  • Email newsletters
  • Answers to common questions

In the past, you had to do most of that work yourself.

Today, AI can help with some of the heavy lifting.

For example, you could ask ChatGPT to:

  • Brainstorm article ideas
  • Create an outline
  • Suggest questions your readers might have
  • Help explain a complicated subject in plain English
  • Give you ideas for social media posts
  • Help organise information
  • Turn your rough notes into a first draft

The important word here is help.

I wouldn’t recommend simply asking AI to write an article, copying the result and publishing it without checking it.

Your experience and judgement still matter.

AI can help you get started, but you are still the editor and the person responsible for what you publish.

The original PLR makes this same distinction: AI can help with ideas, outlines and drafts, while you provide the direction and your own perspective.

Your Life Experience Can Be An Advantage!

This is something I think seniors sometimes overlook.

You have probably spent decades learning about things that other people are only now discovering.

Perhaps you know a great deal about:

  • Gardening
  • Cooking
  • Travel
  • Photography
  • DIY
  • Crafts
  • Pets
  • Cars
  • Retirement
  • Saving money
  • A particular hobby

You may not consider yourself an “expert.”

But you don’t necessarily have to be.

You simply need to know something that can help someone who knows less about it than you do.

And your knowledge doesn’t necessarily have to remain inside a blog post. If you have ever thought about turning what you know into a small book or guide, you may also find How Seniors Can Write and Sell an eBook Using ChatGPT helpful. I explain how AI can assist with organising your ideas and turning them into a simple, useful resource.

👉  Write & Sell An Ebook!

That’s where affiliate marketing can become interesting.

Instead of trying to become an internet marketing expert overnight, you could build a small online project around something you already understand.

And AI can help you turn your knowledge and ideas into useful content.

Choosing The Right Niche for Affiliate Marketing!

You’ll often hear the word niche when you start learning about affiliate marketing.

Don’t let the terminology put you off.

A niche is simply a particular subject or area that you focus on.

Instead of creating a website about everything under the sun, you might concentrate on one particular area.

For example:

Gardening

could become:

Gardening for Beginners

Or:

Gardening for Small Gardens

Or even:

Easy Gardening for Older Adults

The more specific your subject becomes, the easier it can be to understand who you’re trying to help.

I’d also recommends choosing a subject you’re interested in or already understand because it makes creating useful content and genuine recommendations easier.

For Seniors exploring affiliate marketing, choosing a subject you already understand can make the whole process feel much less daunting.

That’s good advice.

I’d much rather see you build something around a subject you enjoy than force yourself to write about something simply because somebody on YouTube told you it was profitable.

You Don’t Need Hundreds Of Products!

Here’s another piece of advice I’d give you.

Don’t promote everything.

When you first discover affiliate marketing, it can be tempting to sign up for dozens of affiliate programs.

You see one product you like.

Then another.

And another.

Before long, you’ve got a collection of affiliate links and no clear idea what you’re actually trying to help people with!

Keep it simple.

Choose a small number of products or services that genuinely fit your subject.

If your website is about gardening, for example, you might recommend:

  • A useful gardening book
  • A particular gardening tool
  • Seeds
  • A gardening course
  • A piece of equipment you’ve found useful

The recommendation should make sense within the article.

Your reader should think:

“That’s useful. Mike has recommended this because it relates to what I’m trying to do.”

Not:

“Here comes another sales pitch.”

Trust is much more valuable than a long list of affiliate links.

Your Blog Can Become Your Home Base!

One of the simplest ways to get started with affiliate marketing is through a blog.

And if you’re reading this on my website, you’ll know that I believe a blog can be a very useful foundation for an online business.

You don’t need hundreds of articles.

A blog can be a particularly useful starting point for affiliate marketing for Seniors, because it gives you somewhere to build helpful content around a subject you know and enjoy.

Start by answering questions.

If you’re in the gardening niche, for example, you might write:

“5 Easy Vegetables To Grow In A Small Garden”

Or:

“What Gardening Tools Does A Beginner Really Need?”

Or:

“How To Start Growing Tomatoes At Home”

Within a genuinely helpful article, you can mention products that are relevant to the subject.

That’s a much more natural approach than simply publishing advertisements.

You Can Also Use Email And Social Media!

A blog isn’t your only option.

Some people enjoy building an email newsletter where they regularly send useful tips and recommendations to subscribers.

Others prefer social media.

You could share a short gardening tip on Facebook, for example, and point people towards a longer article on your website.

The important thing isn’t necessarily which platform you use.

There is another possibility worth considering if you’d rather provide a service than promote products. You could use AI to help create content for small businesses, such as social media posts, blog articles or newsletters. I’ve covered this idea in How Seniors Can Earn Extra Income Writing Content with ChatGPT.

👉  Earn Extra Income?

It’s whether you’re providing something useful.

The original article makes this point well: the method matters less than the value you provide and the trust you build with your audience.

That’s something I’d strongly agree with.

Common Affiliate Marketing Mistakes To Avoid!

Trying To Do Everything At Once

You don’t need a website, YouTube channel, podcast, email newsletter and five social media accounts on day one.

Choose one starting point.

When you’re new to affiliate marketing for Seniors, it’s easy to think you need to build a complicated online business straight away.

Promoting Too Many Products

Keep your recommendations relevant to your audience.

Expecting Immediate Income

Affiliate marketing isn’t a magic money machine.

You may spend quite a while creating useful content before you see meaningful results.

I also recommend starting small rather than trying to build a huge website with hundreds of articles immediately.

Publishing AI Content Without Checking It

Always read what AI produces.

Check facts.

Add your own experience.

Make sure it sounds like a human being wrote it.

And, most importantly, make sure you’d be happy recommending the product yourself.

A Simple Way To Get Started!

If affiliate marketing sounds interesting, don’t try to build the whole business today.

Instead, take one small step.

Think about a subject you know and enjoy.

Then ask yourself:

“What questions would a beginner have about this subject?”

Write down five.

For example, if your subject is gardening:

  1. What tools does a beginner need?
  2. What vegetables are easiest to grow?
  3. How often should I water my plants?
  4. What can I grow in containers?
  5. How do I deal with common garden pests?

You’ve already got five potential articles.

And this is where ChatGPT can become useful.

You can ask it to help you brainstorm article ideas, organise your thoughts and create an outline.

You don’t need to be technically minded.

If you can type a question into a search box, you can start learning how to use an AI assistant.

What About My Free Guide?

If you’re completely new to using AI online, you may be wondering where to begin.

That’s understandable.

There’s a lot of information out there, and some of it can make things seem far more complicated than they really are.

That’s one of the reasons I created my free guide.

It takes a simple, practical approach to getting started online without drowning you in technical jargon or hype.

👉   Earn A Little Extra Online!

You don’t have to rush through it.

Take a look when you have the time and see whether it helps you get a clearer picture of what your next step could be.

Could Affiliate Marketing Be Right For You?

I can’t tell you whether affiliate marketing is the right online side hustle for you.

That depends on your interests, your available time and how much you enjoy creating helpful content.

But I do think it’s worth understanding because the basic model is relatively straightforward.

You find something useful.

You tell people about it.

You provide helpful information around it.

And if someone chooses to buy through your recommendation, you may receive a commission.

That’s it at its core.

The difficult part isn’t understanding the model.

The difficult part is building trust and getting people to discover your content.

That takes time.

But with AI helping you research ideas, organise information and get your content started, the process can be considerably less intimidating than it once was.

Final Thoughts!

If you’re a Senior who has been thinking about earning a little extra income online, don’t assume you have to become a technical expert first.

You don’t.

You don’t need to know everything about AI.

You don’t need a huge website.

And you certainly don’t need to try every online business idea you come across.

Start with something you understand.

Choose one subject.

Help people with useful information.

Use AI as an assistant where it makes sense.

And give yourself time to learn.

As I’ve said many times, there’s no need to rush.

Your first goal doesn’t have to be making money.

Your first goal can simply be understanding how it works and seeing whether you enjoy doing it.

Sometimes that’s the most sensible first step of all.
